Other Affiliations & Appointments:

  • Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) Ambassador*
(*I was in the first class of graduates for the IAVA Ambassadors training in California.  To this date, only two classes exist in California.)
  • IAVA Rapid Response Referral Program (RRRP) Ambassador

Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) is dedicated to building an empowered generation of veterans who provide sustainable leadership for our country and their local communities. We work toward this vision through programs in four key impact areas: supporting new veterans in health, education, employment, housing, and building a lasting community for vets and their families. We create impact in those critical areas through assistance to veterans and their families, raising awareness about veterans’ issues, and advocacy for supporting policy from the federal to the local level.

IAVA is a 21st century veterans’ organization dedicated to standing with the 2.8 million veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan from their first day home through the rest of their lives. One of our key missions in 2014 is the mental health of returning veterans from these two campaigns and the impact on their families. To this date we lost more returning veterans to suicide then in the Iraq & Afghanistan wars. 22 returning veterans commit suicide daily!

I have been a long-term IAVA Civilian Supporter member & Veteran Family member (for the past 10 years). My work with trauma, substance abuse, domestic violence, PTSD, suicide prevention, and chronic homelessness made me acutely aware of the wide ranging needs of our veterans and their loved ones even prior to the founding of IAVA. I already worked in these areas for a decade, once a member supported and partook in IAVA events before jumping at the opportunity to help launch IAVA’s California Chapter (2014) by becoming an IAVA & RRRP Ambassador. I was in the first graduating class of ambassadors (there have only been two graduate groups thus far) and remain actively involved in local outreach and community service.  I am extremely proud to help veterans and their families and IAVA has given me an even more wide-spanning platform to give back to those brave men and women.
